Press Pitch

AppLocker Commander unlocks a security feature already built into Windows but nearly impossible to configure manually — turning it into a one‑click, tiered defense that blocks every unauthorized program, including malware that didn't exist when the rules were written.

Overview

AppLocker is a rule‑based system built on the whitelisting principle: it blocks everything by default unless explicitly allowed. This also protects against malware that did not yet exist when the rules were created, without requiring them to be continuously updated. Rules typically only need adjusting when the system itself changes — for example when software is installed or removed.

AppLocker Commander brings this Windows‑native capability into a graphical interface, gathering every tool needed to manage it in one place. Security rules can be created automatically, without having to edit the AppLocker configuration by hand.

Key Features

Detailed Description

AppLocker Commander is designed for administrators and users who need a fast, reliable way to turn Windows' built‑in AppLocker whitelisting engine into an actively managed security control — without hand‑editing Group Policy or the native AppLocker console.

System hardening is applied in tiers: System Rule denies execution in system folders with write permissions and is suitable for most servers, even without additional apps. Data Rule additionally protects %PROGRAMDATA%, where Windows and third‑party data is stored, allowing only registered signatures or hashes to run there. User Rule extends protection to the entire user area (%USERPROFILE%), where applications, installers and temp files are located. A protection‑level bar shows the security achieved as a percentage at every stage.

The optional Win Tools Rule closes the most common bypass route: the misuse of script interpreters and system tools, for example when an Office macro tries to launch PowerShell or Cmd to load a fileless payload into memory.

Live event monitoring lets administrators filter, search and inspect AppLocker events as they happen, and create a matching rule directly from a blocked event. Rule sets can be exported as XML and re‑imported individually or all at once, making configuration portable across machines.

The interface is intentionally practical: every program area — rule management, pausing, hardening, event monitoring, import/export and software installation — is one click away from the main view.

FAQ

Does AppLocker Commander replace Windows AppLocker?

No. It is a management console for the AppLocker engine already built into Windows — it does not replace or duplicate it, it makes it usable.

What happens if a rule blocks something critical, like startup itself?

An emergency‑unlock switch lets administrators disable AppLocker from Safe Mode if a badly created rule blocks system startup — the system then starts normally again.

Does AppLocker Commander send data to the cloud?

No. All processing happens locally on the user’s system.

Can rules be exported and reused across machines?

Yes. Rule sets can be exported as XML and imported again individually or all at once.
